The Twelve Palaces of Zi Wei Dou Shu, in Plain Language

Knowledge3 min read

Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology) is often described as the “astrology of palaces”. The chart is a square of twelve palaces, and every area of life lives in one of them.

The twelve palaces at a glance

Life Palace (overall self), Siblings, Spouse, Children, Wealth, Health, Travel, Friends, Career, Property, Fortune (inner life), and Parents. The palace names tell you the domain; the stars tell you the tone.

Stars colour the palace

The same palace reads differently with different main stars. A Career Palace led by steady stars suggests a different working style than one led by restless ones. The skill of a reading is matching star temperament to palace domain.

Why Zi Wei feels so detailed

Because twelve palaces × main stars × secondary stars produce a much larger state space than a single-sign system. It rewards careful, structured reading — and punishes vague generalities.
